Duncan is an Irish architect exploring community-led ecocities through action research, as a member of the DINAMIA'CET (ISCTE) and CE3C (FCUL) research groups, building on several decades of practice as a citizen activist. He became co-president of ECOLISE (European Network for Community-Led Initiatives on Climate Change and Sustainability) in 2021, having been part of their climate delegation team to COP25 in Madrid in 2019 and supporting their involvement with the Ecovillage Transition in Action project and Transformative Cities. While living in Curitiba, Brazil (2014-18), he attained his masters in Environment and Development (2018). He lives in Lisbon and builds bridges between different communities, languages, movements, and peoples. From 2019-2021 he coordinated FC.IDβs partnership in the EU Horizon2020 project UrbanA (Urban Arenas for sustainable and just cities) and is now the projects Network Weaver, helping to build a widening Community of Practice. He lived in Barcelona from 2006 to 2013, helping set up the local Transition Towns group in 2009, gaining his permaculture design cert with Richard Wade in Mas Franch 201 and was an indignado in 2011. He is a degrowth-er and loves rivers and asterix comics.
